How to prepare Outlook calendar items
We would like to update everyone on the efforts within the Xeda Forest to address the 2007 DST time changes. We have identified 4 DST issues for the campus Forest and have a plan in place to mitigate each one.
The 4 items identified are:
MS Windows 2003 Servers
The MS Windows 2003 servers have been patched in the TEST Forest (t3.ucdavis.edu) for DST. This is an OS level patch and was included in the February Microsoft Windows monthly patches (KB931836). We will patch the Production Forest this Friday 02/16/07 from 8-10pm. Please see the earlier notification email.
MS Exchange 2003 Servers
Late last week, Microsoft released the DST update tool for Exchange. (How to address daylight savings time by using the Exchange Calendar Update Tool) We will implement the patches on the Exchange server, so the OUTLOOK client patch will not be required (the client OS patch for DST be required, so please don't confuse the two.) The exact time/day the patch tool for DST will run on the production Exchange server is to be determined based on further testing. Correspondence will be sent prior to this critical implementation.
Mobile Devices
Blackberry: The campus Blackberry Enterprise server (BES) will not require any specialized patches for the new DST recognition, instead relying on the Windows Server and Exchange patches. BUT, all handheld units running Blackberry device software versions 4.1.0.375, 4.1.0.377, and 4.1.0.378 are already patched. Other Blackberry devices running 4.0.0 or later must be patched. You will be notified shortly if anyone in your department requires this update, and the suggested method for updating the handheld will be included. For more information on Blackberry and DST, please see http://www.BlackBerry.com/dst2007.
Windows Mobile Devices: Once the Exchange DST update tool has been installed, Windows Mobile users can patch their handheld devices. This can be done by Using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile browser on your device, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx and download the Daylight Saving Time 2007 Update for Windows Mobile. This file will install the update directly on the device. On your device, navigate to the file you downloaded, and then click on it to install the update. For more information on Windows Mobile devices and DST, please see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/daylightsaving/default.mspx#followsteps.
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator
McAfee’s Systems Security management products have date and time sensitive functions (scheduled events, tasks, etc.) as part of normal operation. The ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) rely on the computer system time for most of these functions. Therefore, as soon as the system time changes on the server, ePO will begin using that adjusted time. The server task functions in ePO versions 3.6 and 3.6.1 use Sun’s Java in a date/time conversion and scheduler. Sun Microsystems has announced a DST issue with the version of the JRE that these versions of ePO use (see http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/ ). Sun has also announced a patch to correct this issue. In order to ensure proper DST rollover, the Sun patch will be applied to our ePolicy Orchestrator servers. We will send additional communication and informational updates over the upcoming days/weeks, as new information is being provided by Microsoft everyday. The link to obtain the latest information can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst.
