We would like to keep the Xeda technical department leads reprised and updated with the latest DST 2007 efforts within Xeda.  The main points for today are:

• Online Information:  The VPIET office has created a website to provide the UCD campus with the latest and most up-to-date information concerning DST 2007.  Please visit htttp://vpiet.ucdavis.edu/dst/.  This link can be shared with others who may require additional information concerning DST 2007 within your department. 
   
• Blackberry Handheld Devices:  A newly revised management software, released two days ago, allows for pushing the DST 2007 handheld patch to the individual handhelds incorporated into the central Xeda BES server.  Although we have some reservations on relying solely on pushing updates to some high profile BlackBerry users (devices) using such "newly released patches" (lessons learned from the past), we will do so based on the general consensus.  The push will begin with a small group within IET this weekend, with the reminder occurring over the next week.  A separate non-technical communication to the Blackberry users will be distributed prior to this, detailing the dates and setting anticipated expectations.
  
  In the event the patch push does not work as anticipated, our contingency plan will be to send a single web link directly to the BlackBerry handheld end user.  This will be enable them to click the link from their handheld, downloading the patch directly to their individual unit.  Again, a direct email communication will occur prior to implementing this contingency plan.  
   
• Campus FAX:  In the recent past, we had received notification the enterprise FAX services application (RightFax 9.x) was not in need of updating for DST 2007, with the dependency on only the OS time clock.  Yesterday, we received a corrected notification from the vendor stating the earlier information communicated was incorrect.  A time dependency above the OS time clock has been   A patch has been supplied, which we will apply tomorrow night (Friday 03/02) from 9-10pm.  We do not anticipate a loss of service after this patch is applied.
