Status: In 2006-07, Information and Educational Technology (IET) introduced the ability for directory approvers to update their departments’ individual listings directly from the Web. A self-serve application was also released to allow community members to request an update to their listings and route those requests automatically to the appropriate individuals within their departments. Over the last few months, campus departments have had a chance to familiarize themselves with this online system, and IET has worked to identify a number of enhancements to the online application.
In July 2007, the project team started work on a series of enhancements, in close coordination with the White Pages User Advisory Board.

Rationale:  During the 2006-07 academic year, IET collaborated with the UC Davis Health System and campus community to develop a new, online directory system (the UC Davis “White Pages”). Once completed, this system will host a central campus directory from which listings will be updated online, any time, from anywhere. This same system will also make it possible to produce the printed version of the campus phone book, or subsets of this data, thereby streamlining a process involving several directory data sources into one single, unified system.

Goals:

• Provide an intuitive, user-friendly online directory application, along with the tools needed for effectively updating and managing campus directory listing information.
• Incorporate direct input from users of the system to ensure that planned enhancements will ultimately make the job of all approvers around campus easier.

Groups to be consulted:

• UC Davis White Pages User Advisory: This advisory board was established in early July 2007 to guide the project team’s work on new functionality that will be offered to directory approvers in campus departments. This group represents a broad cross-section of approvers from both the main campus and the UC Davis Health System.
